Australia is fast becoming a key strategic country for international retailers to expand their footprint. The potential of the Australian on-line shopping market is reflected in the decision by Amazon to enter the Australian market.
It is further reflected in recent and continued successes from some of the US, UK and Europe's largest retailers offering their products into the Australian market by utilising partnerships with a 3PL provider in Australia who can manage and distribute a local stock holding.
Using this model, Australian consumers can access international brands without having to wait 7-10 days for international delivery which makes a significant difference in their buying decision.

Effective from the 1st of July 2018 an important change in tax legislation will be implemented in Australia. Currently, imported shipments into Australia under $1000 are exempt from the 10% GST (Goods and Services tax). From July 1st, the 10% GST will apply to all imports into Australia regardless of the value. This change in legislation will mean the following for retailers selling to Australian customers:
Locating your inventory in Australia and sending your orders from within Australia will avoid these issues and provide your business with a competitive advantage.
Furthermore, if you set up a business structure in Australia (which we can assist with), you'll be able to claim back the 10% GST you paid on import via your quarterly tax compliance process called a BAS - Business Activity Statement.
Effective from the 1st of July 2018, Amazon will be blocking Australian consumers from accessing all Amazon global marketplaces. As a result Australians will only be able to shop on Amazon.com.au. The move is in response to the Australian government decision to apply the 10% GST to all overseas purchases regardless of the value. Amazon's ban applies to all shipments to Australian addresses, which means that even customers with VPN's that hide their location will not be able to ship to their home.
Considering this change, the only way to sell to Australians via Amazon is to locate stock within Australia and sell on the Amazon.com.au site.
